Representation

Through the Digital Dignity Legal Clinic, individual lawyers authorized to practice in your province or territory can provide you with direct legal representation. We act for victim-survivors of non-consensual intimate image (NCII) abuse only.

Depending on the facts of your case and your individual circumstances, we can represent you and help you pursue the following remedies:

  • A report to police about the person who shared—or threatened to share—the intimate images of you. This may lead to:

    • criminal charges;

    • prosecution;

    • a conviction; and/or

    • an order under the Criminal Code that the person who shared intimate images of you refrain from using the Internet.

  • A civil lawsuit against the person who shared—or threatened to share—the intimate images of you. This may lead to:

    • an apology;

    • a negotiated settlement where the person pays a sum of money and deletes the intimate images of you from specific websites or internet platforms, or from their personal possession;

    • a court order requiring the person to delete the intimate images of you from specific websites or internet platforms, or from their personal possession;

    • a court order prohibiting the person from ever sharing—or threatening to share—the intimate images of you; and/or

    • a court order requiring that the person pay you money, called “damages,” for sharing—or threatening to share—the intimate images of you.

  • A protection order directed at specific websites or internet platforms that requires them to delete the intimate images of you.
